Imagine a more powerful therapeutic approach that involves activities boys can enjoy…

Besides traditional one-on-one sessions with their therapists, Discovery Ranch students spend their days in a variety of experiential activities that include:

Our brand of emotionally rich experiential therapy is effective because it lowers students’ defenses and creates a safe environment for change. It doesn’t look or feel like traditional therapy. Our experiential program is more than just a filling time. It’s a mindset. Students progress faster because they have more opportunities to practice what they are learning.

Therapeutically intense and carefully supervised, students learn who they really are as they work side by side with therapists and staff who model, motivate, and mentor.

Healing teens and families

We help families whose students struggle with a variety of behavioral and emotional issues, such as:

Our Discovery Ranch campus for boys is located on a beautiful 20-acre ranch at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains.

We sent our child to Discovery Ranch after wilderness and 2 unsuccessful therapeutic boarding programs. The program and staff provided meaningful structure our son needed. While he continued to struggle with boundaries and limits he learned valuable coping skills and was able to work through issues related to the trauma he has experienced. He needed to be consistently reminded of his value and worth and the belief that he could mange his emotions in a safe way - not running from them. He was able to make steady academic progress as well learn skills to regulate his emotions in a positive way. The program was difficult and while he did not graduate from DR it provided a safe environment, a wonderful therapist and a staff that did not give up on him. The horsemanship program and music studio provided opportunities for him to develop additional interests & skill. He is athletic and DR offered opportunities for the boys to play some organized sports. This was not found at the other programs. The parent support and education was helpful. We had excellent communication with his therapist throughout the program. She worked closely with us and supported our son and his progress.

I attended Discovery Ranch From September of 2021 to June of 2023. I had a great experience even though I had some bump along the way. But through those bumps in the road I learned that hard work pays off and it's ok to make mistakes because you can learn from your mistakes. Discovery Ranch helped me so much when I first got to Discovery Ranch I felt shy and alone. I was nervous my first day but after the first week I knew that everyone at DR loved and cared about me. Even when I tried to push the staff away they never gave up me. My therapist Chris Brown helped me and my family so much. I also wanna thank everyone at DR for helping me and my family. I do agree that change takes time but as long as you work hard you can do great thing and graduate from DR and move forward with your life. I also love that the executives of DR will take the feedback the student give and will use that feedback to better the program. I'm very thankful that the directors at DR would always listen to the students and would take what they say into consideration. I love the equine therapy my instructors Dan Mayer. Also wanna say that my teachers: Mrs. Silva, Mrs. Bayles, Mr. Mike Talbert, Mr. Johnson and Miss Teresa. They Helped me so much in academics and Mr. Johnson was and is an amazing math teacher. Because of Discovery Ranch I am a better version of myself and I don't know where me and my family would be without Discovery Ranch. I also thank nurse Megan Frost for caring for me and all the boys at DR and most of all when she first started at DR she was and is still wants to get know all of the boys at Discovery Ranch. Discovery Ranch Thank you so much for helping me and my family.

What Makes Discovery Ranch Different?

Discovery Ranch offers more than just therapy—it provides a comprehensive healing experience by integrating clinical expertise, hands-on learning, and strong family involvement. This well-rounded approach helps teenage boys develop the skills they need to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

  • Comprehensive Therapy
Our experienced therapists (averaging 23 years in the field) provide 10–15 hours of therapy each week. Teens participate in individual, family, group, and experiential therapy sessions, using evidence-based approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Neurofeedback (NFB), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
  • Experiential Learning for Lasting Change
Beyond traditional therapy, Discovery Ranch engages teens in hands-on activities that promote emotional growth. Through Equine Therapy, Recreation Therapy, and outdoor challenges, students build confidence, develop resilience, and learn to navigate real-life struggles in a safe and structured environment.
  • Family Involvement for Stronger Bonds
Family plays a crucial role in the healing process. Parents participate in weekly family therapy, on-campus visits, and Parent Day Seminars to strengthen connections and support their son’s progress. The secure parent portal keeps families informed and involved every step of the way.

At the heart of our success is the integrated CARE model, which ensures that every aspect of a teen’s journey—clinical, academic, residential, and experiential—works together to create a seamless, supportive environment for lasting growth.

How Parents Are Equipped For Lasting Change

Healing doesn’t stop at Discovery Ranch—it continues at home. That’s why family involvement is a cornerstone of our program. Parents are provided with the guidance, skills, and support they need to help their son maintain progress long after treatment ends.

  • Weekly Family Therapy
Parents participate in weekly virtual or in-person family therapy sessions with experienced therapists. These sessions help rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen relationships.
  • Parent Education & Workshops
We offer Parent Day Seminars, where families learn about mental health, emotional regulation, and effective parenting strategies. These workshops empower parents with tools to support their teen’s growth.
  • Regular Family Visits
Parents are encouraged to visit and engage in their teen’s progress. These structured visits provide opportunities to practice new skills, reinforce positive changes, and reconnect as a family.
  • Secure Parent Portal for Ongoing Support
The Discovery Ranch Parent Portal gives families real-time updates on their son’s progress. It includes therapy insights, academic reports, and communication tools to keep parents actively involved.
Parental Participation

At Discovery Ranch, parents don’t just watch their teen change—they become part of the healing process, ensuring that growth continues long after their son returns home.
