Graduation Requirements

Discovery Ranch students must complete a minimum of twenty-four (24) units of high school credit in order to meet graduation requirements. These requirements are established by the Utah State Board of Education and administered by our sister program, Discovery Academy. The Academy is accredited by the National Association of Accredited Schools.

Upon graduation, Discovery Ranch students will receive an official transcript containing their academic record together with a high school diploma from the State of Utah and warded by Discovery Academy.

Requirements include both core subjects as well as electives credits and are listed below. Students may fill elective requirements with any courses EXCEPT those being used to fill core requirements.

  • Language Arts: Four (4.00) units
    One unit each of English 9, 10, 11 and 12. English 12 may be satisfied from any of the following: Creative Writing, AP English, or Classical Literature.
  • Social Studies: Three (3.50) units
    One unit of both World Geography and United States History, as well as one half unit of United States Government are required. The remaining one unit may be satisfied by any social studies course.
  • Math: Three (3.00) units
    These units may be satisfied by any combination of mathematics courses of at least Algebra I level or higher.
  • Science: Three (3.00) units
    One unit of both biological and physical science is required. The remaining unit may be satisfied by any science course.
  • Fine Art: One and one half (1.50) units
    These units may be satisfied by any visual or performing art courses.
  • Career Tech Ed: One (1.00) unit
    This unit may be satisfied by any computer, technical, business, or vocation course.
  • Financial Literacy: One half (0.50) unit
  • Physical Education: One and one half (1.50) units
  • Health: One half (0.50) unit
  • Electives: Five and one half (5.50) units as stated above, these credits may be satisfied by any combination of courses other than those satisfying credit for a special requirement.

  • Total number of required units of core credits: 18.50
  • Total number of elective units of credit: 5.50
  • Total number of units of credit required for graduation: 24.00
